Shara Marie Resende, L.Ac. is a
graduate of
Rutgers
University
with a Bachelor degree in Biology and of Pacific
College of Oriental Medicine (NY) with a Masters of
Science in Traditional Oriental Medicine.
She is a Diplomate of
Oriental Medicine and nationally certified in herb
medicine and acupuncture with the National
Certification Commission for Acupuncture and
Oriental Medicine (NCCAOM) and certified in clean needle
technique with the Council of Colleges of
Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine.
She is licensed for
Acupuncture in the State of New York and in the State of
New Jersey.
Shara has spoken
about Acupuncture and Traditional Chinese Medicine
on WBAI Radio 99.5FM as a guest on "Science, Health,
and Healing" with Dr. Majid Ali in 2009. She
is discussing Acupuncture on Cablevision's Local
Access television show "For the Health of It" with
Dr. David Barrett during the month of April 2010.
Shara’s interest in science
motivated her to continue studies in the field
throughout college.
Her love of people and
healing encouraged her journey into alternative
medicine.
After finishing her
undergraduate studies in Biology she began working
with the Institute
of Integrative Medicine,
a busy medical practice combining mainstream and
alternative treatments.
She worked closely with
many patients with multiple, chronic, and rare
disorders.
Under the guidance of
her mentors, three experienced pathologists, she
learned there was more to the treatment of disease
than surgeries and medications.
She has pursued the
treatment of people with chronic disorders
throughout her studies at Pacific College of
Oriental Medicine with her externship at the NYU
Hospital for Joint Disease; Initiative for Women
with Disabilities and in the treatment of patients
at Pacific College of Oriental Medicine’s clinic.
She has experience in
using Traditional Chinese Medicine for treating
Lupus, Multiple sclerosis, Osteoarthritis, Diabetes,
Hypertension, Depression and Anxiety, PMS, Sciatic
pain, Shoulder pain, Ocular Hypertension and
many other disorders as
well as side effects from medications.
The most important
lesson was that each person was individual and the
pathology of diseases is able to be viewed by many
different perspectives.
She learned to respect
the perception of the patient and that any medical
condition manifests not only physically, but also
mentally.
Naturally, Traditional
Chinese Medicine was a perfect compliment to her own
philosophy of medicine.
Chinese Medicine allows
the practitioner to become an artist and carefully
analyze each person’s case.
She takes pride in being
able to pay close attention to the detailed aspects
of lifestyle and physiology of each patient, which
rule the diagnosis in Chinese Medicine.
She continues to be
fascinated with the human body and its capacity to
repair and heal itself.
The modalities of
Acupuncture and herbs allow her encourage and
facilitate the body’s process of well being and
balance in a world that relies so much on technology
and pharmaceuticals.
Shara appreciates each
person that allows her to take part in their healing
and is thankful to have the opportunity to share her
knowledge and experience with those in need.
In April
2009, Shara had the opportunity to travel to
Beijing, China to study Acupuncture at the Beijing
University Training Progam.
She received a
certificate in training from that University.
During her time in China
she visited 5 different hospitals to observe how
Chinese Medicine Doctors utilized Acupuncture and
Herbal medicines in combination with standard
hospital care.
She was very impressed
with Tian Men Hospital and their efforts in
conducting Clinical Trials and utilizing acupuncture
for surgical anesthesia. The hospital gave her the
opportunity to observe a real time brain surgery
using this technique.
She also observed the
acupuncture clinic at China-Japan Friendship
Hospital which is one of the most fast paced
acupuncture clinics in Beijing associated within a
standard care hospital. There she gained more
experience from the Acupuncture Doctors to treat
cases such as Hemiplegia, Paralysis, Post Stroke,
Herpes Zoster, and pain management.
